Here's the list of volunteers we have so far for the Saturday of Festival:
Although Summer Marching Band Camp seems a long time off, i wanted to make sure that busy parents (such as yourselves) are able to plan your summer accordingly so here are the dates for next year's Marching Band Camp:
August 6th, 2012-August 10th, 2012
Band Camp is for all 2012 8th-12th Grade Band Students. I will be sending home paperwork shortly (medical forms, permission slips, gloves/shoes/polo order forms, etc) that will need to be turned in before the end of the year.
Just wanted to send home a few reminders about this week:
---Pre-Festival Concert is this Wednesday, Call time for students is 6 pm, concert begins at 7 pm.
---Fundraiser Order Forms (no money---money is collected at time of delivery) are due TOMORROW!
---The sign up sheet for State S & E is on the board in the HS Band Room---students need to sign up for at least 3 times to meet with me (soloists, this is your accompanist practice time as well!)
---Donation notes for Festival have been sent home---if you can help out, be sure to sign up or donate $5 to help Boosters cover the cost of concessions for our hosting Festival in March.
---If you have not yet checked out our new band web page, check it out at TawasBands.com---I'll be posting all kinds of announcements (like this one!), there's an up-to-date calendar on there, all of my contact info is on there, and you can even subscribe to the RSS Feed if you use Google Reader.
For our Pre-Festival Concert I've just had confirmation on our 3 Adjudicators who will be on our Judges Panel! We have two returning judges---Mr. Jim Sapp and Ms. Lyn Behnke who both adjudicated for us last year (and who's ratings were very close to what we actually earned at Festival!)
Our new addition to the Judges panel is Mrs. Tracee Lentz, our favorite Choir Director who will be sitting in and sharing her musical expertise with us as our 3rd Adjudicator.
Our Guest Adjudicators will be filling out our Judges Forms (parents will have a copy of this on the back of their concert programs so they'll know exactly what the judges are looking for and will be able to get a taste of the Festival Process) as well as sharing their thoughts and insights with the band after each bands performance.
Remember, the Pre-Festival Concert is next Wednesday at 7 pm (Call Time is 6 pm for Students---7th Grade Report immediately to the "Gymnatorium" for warm-ups, HS report to the Band Room).
Congrats to the following Solo and Ensemble students for qualifying for State S & E: Heather Britt for her French Horn Solo, Cole VanderVeen for his Alto Sax Solo, Kalvin Lentz for his Alto Sax solo, our Clarinet Quartet made up of Courtney McGee, Bethanii Cloutier, Barbra Lounsbury, and Gabby Morris, our Clarinet Duet made up of Gabby Morris and Bethanii Cloutier, and our Percussion Ensemble made up of Kenny McArdle, Courtany Colvin, Barbra Lounsbury, Heather Britt, Kalvin Lentz, Tara Crawford, Cady Czogolsz, Gabby Morris, Erik Adamiak, and Andrea Taylor.
State Festival will be held March 24th, 2012 in Manistee, MI. I have spoken with the students regarding requested times and should have a schedule soon.
There will be a sign up sheet in the Band Room on Thursday to sign up for rehearsal times with Mr. Akers (soloists---this will include rehearsal with the accompanist unless otherwise discussed). As stated in the Handbook, all accompanist fees will be paid for by our Band Boosters for solo performances ($30)---of course, if you want to pay your accompanist or get them flowers, a card, etc. you are certainly welcome to do so (Susan works very hard for all of our programs!) Entrance fees have been covered by the school.
So be sure to keep practicing your music, sign up for at least 2 rehearsals (3-5 would be better!) and mark off March 24th on your calendar!
Update: I didn't get schedules posted today so we'll for getting rehearsals set up tomorrow and I'll post them on the band calendar.
Dear Band Parents and Students,
Just wanted to send out a friendly reminder about the Pre-Festival Concert a week from today (February 22nd) at 7 pm. This concert is for 7th Grade Band, and 8th-12th Grade Band. Usual concert attire is required.
The concert starts at 7 pm and will be expected to run until about 7:45 pm. Since this is our Pre-Festival Concert I will be having 2 to 3 judges there critiquing us from a Festival Judge standpoint and you will have the opportunity to hear what kinds of things the judges are listening for.
I look forward to seeing everyone on February 22nd, 2012!
Hi Band Parents!
Band Festival is coming up in a little under one month and we have the opportunity to host this year! With the responsibility of hosting also comes the responsibility of feeding all of the wonderful bands that will be visiting us.
Fortunately, Mrs. Madagame has volunteered to head up this huge task and in order to help her we are asking for students to bring in donations to help cut down on the cost that our Booster's need to put into this. Of course, this will be a great fundraiser for our Band Boosters, especially if we have to spend very little (if anything) out of pocket.
Today marks the beginning of our 2012 Fundraiser Kickoff! Details have been sent home with the students along with the catalogs, forms, etc. The Fundraiser will run from today through February 21st (Tuesday).
Our main goals through this fundraiser is to raise money to continue to update our bigger instruments, trips, music, etc.
There are a lot of cool opportunities for your students to promote this fundraiser online using facebook, email, etc. so be sure to help your students set that up.
Be sure to visit this website: http://helpourgroup.com
Group ID: 34448
Once your student logs in, they will be able to access their own individual link through Facebook that will track their items sold back to them (if they don't use this link it will NOT be credited to them).
If you have any questions, leave me a comment, send me an email, or a phone call.
This is one of our most successful fundraisers so get out there and sell!
On Saturday, February 4th, the Tawas Area High School Band traveled to Gladwin High School to perform in eight different solo and ensemble events. Students performed for judges and received a rating based on tone, technique, musicality, and overall performance. Students were rated between a I and a IV with a I rating being the highest honor and earning them a chance to perform at the State Solo and Ensemble competition in March.
