I'm out today and tomorrow (pretty sick... bronchitis and an ear infection... sorry gang). So no S & E practices today, tomorrow, and probably even Thursday, the reason being that since I can't do my High School night of conferences tomorrow evening from 6-9 pm I'll have to do Thursday from 4-7 pm for High School parents. Again, sorry this week hasn't gone as planned but I'm trying to get back up to 100% for Friday and Saturday. If anything changes with Thursday's practices I'll let you know.
S & E students, make sure you keep up with practicing and we'll get as many in as we can next Monday and Tuesday before break.
Thanks for your understanding :)
What a great weekend constructing Apple Dumplings this week! You set a record with 1,769 Dumplings made!!! Congrats to everyone involved in this huge project!
I just finalized our recent fundraiser with Century Resources as well as you earned just over $4000 in profits! With this money we'll need to purchase a few instruments for marching band next year as well as we'll start looking at doing some fun small trips for possibly May or early June!
Also, congrats to Emily Ramsdell, Aleigha Kimsel, and Doug Ferguson on earning a spot in the Central Michigan University Honors Band---the three students traveled down to CMU for an all day rehearsal Saturday, back to Tawas Saturday to help with Dumplings, and then back to CMU Sunday morning for more rehearsal and a performance Sunday afternoon. Congrats to these three students and their hard work!
And hopefully I'll hear something this week about the Michigan All State Band Audition results this week---I'll keep you posted as soon I hear something.
Here's what's coming later this month:
Happy Sunday and good work this week! I hope you enjoyed having Mr. Senkmajer in as a guest on Friday and I'm really excited as I start putting together a "Story" for next year's show.
Here's what we have coming this week:
High School Band:
Nov. 11th (Weds) Veteran's Day Assembly 3rd Hour. Students will be dismissed 2nd hour to help setup. Please wear dressy clothes: slacks/dress shirts, dresses/blouses. Remember, we are honoring our Veterans that day.
Star Spangled Banner
America the Beautiful
7th/8th Grade Solo and Ensemble Rehearsal Schedule
Please start bringing in Apple Dumpling Ingredients this week---we are aiming to make over 1,300 Dumplings as we are also planning on selling them at our December 5th Solo and Ensemble event for the Middle School Solo and Ensemble! Nov. 14th is our construction day so please let your student know if you can help out, even if it's just for a short shift. We need to get these little bits of "deliciousness" made so they are ready to bake for the 21st and the 5th!
Keep in mind:
9th-12th Grade S & E Sign-up
All Star Band Music
All Star Band Auditions are coming up at the end of December. Any Band student is eligibile (grades 7-12) and 9th Grade students may audition for both the Junior Band (7-9) and the Senior Band (9-12) or either/or. However, they will only get accepted into one Band. You will need to download and prepare both the Etude and the Chromatic Scale and it looks as if we'll be submitting these this year via Google Drive versus doing CDs as we usually do. I'll be setting up a folder soon for students to upload their files to and later this week we'll even do some testing to see how it works.
The actual event is January 29th and 30th in Alpena and students will be staying overnight with chaperones and other Tawas students in Alpena. We typically leave around 2-3 pm from Tawas that Friday and arrive back in Tawas around 6 pm Saturday evening. It's a long but very fun weekend so get to work on the All Star Music!

Congrats to our All State Students who auditioned this past weekend and did a fantastic job! Well done to all of you---that's a tough audition but I promise it'll be worth it if you make it! I should have results in 2-3 weeks and will post them as soon as I know (usually around the Friday or Saturday of the Band Bazaar is when I typically get the email).
We are also gearing up for 7th/8th Grade Solo and Ensemble. I'll be sending home a rehearsal calendar later this week (and posting it). If you can't make your assigned time, please let me know a different time (yes, I was having students sign-up but as with the All State Auditions, there were a lot of students that didn't sign up for a time so I'll make a rehearsal calendar this time around and it'll be up to you to tell me if you can't make it).
High School Solo and Ensemble registration was posted last week---please refer to the sign up form posted there to register.
