I will not be at school Monday due to our family traveling downstate for a funeral, but please keep these things in mind as we have a busy week ahead of us:
(THIS WAS SENT HOME TODAY DURING CLASS)
Dear HS Band Parents,
Our next home game is September 28th, 2012, which is also our Senior Band Parents Night. Along with Senior Band Parents Night we are also doing our Band Pictures with Jay Samuels. This is your opportunity to order individual photos, buttons, etc of your student as well as a group picture of the entire band.
Our Band Photo will be taken at 4:30 pm on the High School Football field with the individual photos to follow right after (usually taken out by the soccer field in one of the grassy areas).
Here are just a few quick announcements to keep in mind this week:
Band Camp Shirt Order Form (Due Sept. 17th)
As some of you have read in the Band Handbook, All State Apps are due at the end of the this month (Monday September 24th, 2012). Keep in mind that although the School and/or Band Boosters will pay for the entry fee for your student to audition, there are other costs associated with this performance, such as a $60 fee to participate, there are hotel costs, food, gas, etc. that you will be responsible for.
If chosen, your student will have the opportunity to perform at the prestigious Michigan Music Conference in Grand Rapids held in January (see the Band Calendar for exact dates in January).
Auditions are held in AuGres on October 27th and 28th. Those auditions are live.
Below are links to the introductory letters regarding the auditions, the event, what to expect, etc. If you are interested you need to see me next week so I can start getting audition music around (if you look at the music list it takes me a few days to find the music, scales, and copy it all for your student so give me a few days to get that done because each audition piece is found in a different method book for each instrument).
MSBOA All State Information (read all the way through---there is information for both the Middle School and High School Band Requirements---8th Grade is considered Middle School according to MSBOA. Also, they have October 1st as the postmark date---that is MY deadline. Your deadline is Sept. 24th so I have time to get checks around, etc please adhere to the deadline that I have ;)
Just a quick note---in the Band Handbook I distributed I had the date for the Veteran's Day Assembly as November 9th, 2012---it is correct on the Website Calendar---Monday November 12th, 2012.
This is performance is during the school day (3rd hour at the High School).
For the High School Marching Band, we will be having our Senior's Night on September 28th (2nd home game vs. Whittemore Prescott). I will send a note home with our Seniors with more details as that game approaches.
Dear HS Band Parents,
Just wanted to send home a quick reminder about tomorrow evening’s home football game.
Students are to report to the Band Room dressed in uniform and ready to go at 5:30 pm. I will have the band room doors open at 5:00 pm for students to come in and start getting their uniforms on, etc. If your student still needs to get their shoes and/or gloves, they may do so at that time.
Please make sure that students have long black socks (no ankle socks) as part of their uniform as well as a dark shirt to go underneath their marching coat (Black Under Armour works well for both the heat and when it gets cold in the fall).
Once students are in uniform they are not allowed to eat or have snacks (we will have water available in the stands and they may bring bottled water for before the game) so please make sure they arrive having eaten a good meal that will hold them over until after the game.
This may not be the case at the rest of the games, but for this first game I will be dismissing the students after our halftime performance, at which time they need to come back to the band room and make sure their uniforms are completely put away as well as take care of their instruments.
